You know what would be a really nerdy cool name for a strip club?

NURBS

I hope that doesn’t offend anyone.

New bed!

Filed under: Uncategorized — jzoe @ 2:23 pm

I guess I have a lot of stuff to write about, there is so much going on right now. One thing is a major purchase that Kendra and I finally made- a new bed that will (hopefully) bring a huge improvement to our sleep.

One of Kendra’s friends has a bed from Select Comfort, and she really likes it. It has the adjustable foundation, so the head and feet raise and lower with a remote control. This is one of those “Sleep number” beds where you can change the firmness of the mattress- and it turns out that it really doesn’t seem like a gimmic.

Of course I’ll post more after we actually get the bed and sleep on it for a while, but I’ll say that I was convinced enough to spend the money. More later!

Thanks, bros!

I need to extend a HUGE thanks to Gabe Williams and Mike Mangiagli, who drove up from LA this weekend and helped me move from Berkeley to El Cerrito. These guys worked hard and saved my ass from … my self. I should have taken off most of last week to pack and start the move, and there’s no way I would have made it if it weren’t for these guys.

There will be photos of the new place eventually, too.

Stephen Jay Gould

Filed under: Books, Random Links — jzoe @ 9:39 am

A good quote of the day is by Stephen Jay Gould:

“In science, ‘fact’ can only mean ‘confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent.’ I suppose that apples might start to rise tomorrow, but the possibility does not merit equal time in physics classrooms.”

In school we had to read a book he wrote refuting “The Bell Curve”, and I’m definitely a fan of his.

Got an MP3 player

I’m seriously loving having an MP3 player. I really missed how good it feels to listen to a song played loud and clear without worrying about ticking off neighbors.

Portfolio / Resume

I just updated the resume on my website, so hopefully that’s a little more up to date and professional looking. Mike also reminded me of the portfolio, and now I’m thinking that there are a lot of things that I could add to it. This is just a short list of things I might put in there:

-Extruded aluminum heatsink (never built)
-Redesigned keypad
-LCD window (never built)
-The actual solution to the kelvin clip problem
-An old battery enclosure I designed during my internship (never built)
Hopefully there will be a list of comparable length added to that before long. I’ve been doing more engineering design work since I got out of customer support.
