Last night Kendra and I went to Ikea for some new furnishings for our new apartment. We walked around the store for a bit less then an hour (I think), and picked out some wire drawers and shelves for the kitchen and bedroom closet. They should be ideal for adding storage space for all of our things- storage she can reach. It was affordable, too- a little over $200 for eighteen drawers, two shelves, and two bars worth of closet space. This is the stuff that’s going to let us get out of boxes and into a normal apartment.
Ikea is pretty cool; their stuff isn’t the most durable, but I like the designs and they’re cheap. What really sucked was getting home delivery!! We paid for our stuff at 7:30 PM, and stood in another line for an hour and a half for home delivery. There was no indication of how long we would have to wait, and it was really horrible to stand in line for so long. There was no information about progress or how much longer we’d have to wait. Even if we had a car to take the stuff home right away, I still don’t know if I’d go back to that store. The internet seems to be the only way to shop Ikea.
That reminds me- they’re supposed to be some sort of “good design” store, where the emphasis is supposed to be on clever designs. They put up photos of the designers, and everything has weird nordic names that nobody can pronounce. How could the goof up so badly on their own store? It just wasn’t well thought out.
So, after 5 hours and hundreds of dollars, we came home with a plastic $1 trash can. More will be delivered on monday.
