Do you know what I love about tea?

I am a coffee fan, and I love good coffee. I like to think that I can get by on the cheapest coffee, but really- I need good beans. I prefer fair trade organic coffee, and that costs a bit more. It tastes better, and it’s more environmentally and socially responsible.

I’m also a college student, so I tend to tell myself i’m saving a lot of money and get the Chock Full O Nuts coffee can for $3.50. It will last me all semester, for less than a grande mocha from starbucks.

What I love about tea is that i can buy a box of 100 Lipton teabags on sale for $2.25 at Rite Aide, and they will last me most of the semester… and I can’t imagine it tasting any better. It’s tea- just tea. I haven’t been spoiled by some gourmet organic tea, I haven’t been awakened to the plight of the underpaid and undercut tea farmers, or the conditions of their sun baked chemically blighted fields.

It’s just freakin’ tea, and if I want I can add sugar, or let it get cold before I drink it.

I remember when I was a small child, I watched cartoons that were about as violent as was allowed. Back then, I don’t recall anything very graphic or violent. It’s not like today’s stuff. Maybe my parents just didn’t let me watch certain things.

Anyway, I remember that one of the old favorites for suggesting that somebody had been killed, or suffered some greivous bodily harm- usually they were subdued and abducted- it was the mangled note that trailed off at the end with a squiggle like they were ambushed while they were writing it. It would be something like:

“I think somebody is out to g—~~” and the ink would trail off the edge of the paper as though their writing arm was suddenly bumped, or they were pulled away from their desk and they were reaching out, clawing for anything to hold on to so they wouldn’t be dragged away… and their pen caught on the paper.

Sometimes there would be shreds, or smears, or even smudges suggesting blood. Inevitably, those letters were the start of an exciting rescue mission. I remember back in the day when I was four or five, I’d try pulling that trick on the playground, writing with a stick in the sand, then hiding under a bench and wondering if my friends would go have an adventure looking for me. They’d see me write it and then hide, of course, and they hadn’t seen the cartoon so they didn’t know what was going on inside my head. That’s the way it is, i guess.

Airport screeners disciplined for X-raying their own bodies

Something about this story really made my day. I guess it’s just one of those things that I always figured happens but doesn’t make it to the news.

Hydravision

So, I’ve had a dual-monitor video card for over a year now… and two monitors since august or september. I never REALLY experienced dual monitors until today, when I downloaded the right software. I guess it could be a lot better- but being able to maximize a window to just one monitor is a LOT more convenient than the way it was before.

Oh yeah, and I ordered a new processor tonight. I also ordered a lapping kit. Isn’t that crazy? I spent $7 for a new heatsink/fan because the one that came with my original processor is too loud. Then I go and spend another $6 on some dumb sandpaper to make the base of that heatsink smooth within a couple of microns (my own dumb fault for nicking the base) and because you can’t *really* get a processor clean once you use the default thermal interface pad, another $65 for a brand new (faster) processor.

People do much sillier things- upgrading, tuning, tweaking- and I guess I feel like i’ve got my urge to do so under control.

Oh yeah. and I procrastinate on school work, so I end up staying up till forever typing lab reports.

lipps movie (7mb)

I didn’t get all of my homework done this weekend (yet) but- I did make a neat movie. If I can find some time to plan the shots/effects/etc and get access to a better digital camera, I have the feeling I could do some really crazy stuff.
